Pelvic Organ Prolapse

What Is Pelvic Organ Prolapse?

Pelvic organ prolapse (POP) is something you’ve likely never really thought of. This odd-sounding condition refers to the collapsing of pelvic organs such as the bladder, uterus, cervix, and rectum, into or out of the vagina. This condition most often impacts women who have suffered pelvic trauma due to childbirth or those who are overweight. Due to the discomfort this problem causes, it is typically better to address POP early. At Helio Health & Wellness, we’re happy to provide ongoing monitoring in the form of annual exams to help you deal with this condition.

What Causes Pelvic Organ Prolapse?

POP can happen when you have had consistent, increased pressure on the abdomen, such as from pregnancy/labor, obesity, a hysterectomy, a chronic cough or chronic constipation with frequent straining. There can also be a genetic component to your condition, as some people may have weaker connective tissues in the pelvic area. POP can be very painful and uncomfortable. Fortunately, we here at Helio Health & Wellness are happy to offer a natural, therapeutic approach to addressing this issue.
